Hello!

Kick-start!

Cock a doodle doo!
It was early in the morning when I received a call from Saleh a friend of mine, "Wake up! I heard there's a new restaurant that serves delicious breakfast in Al-Bidea, let's check it out." he said. I woke up, washed my sleepy face, brushed my teeth and put on some clothes. There was Bu Slooh outside beeping the horn. I entered his car and we were off to our destination. We arrived and the place looked fancy and yummy, and we were hoping that we'll get yummy food too!

What happened?!

The restaurant was a disaster! The decorations were fabulous, but unfortunately the service wasn't. The waiters and waitresses were frowning the whole time, I have no idea why. They made me feel that I'm a worthless criminal brought recently into their jail! The omelet was cold and the bread wasn't fresh plus it was hard as a rock. Simply I can say it wasn't the experience we were expecting!

So?

In Yummy Q8 we believe that food should always taste good!

Visiting Al Ghadeer Restaurant

On Monday, I went to Al Ghadeer Restaurant,  Iranian cuisine with a dear friend for dinner. It is located in Salmiya, precisely in Amman street, opposite to Al Rashed Hospital. Although the place was tiny and cozy, it was calm, comfortable and is suitable for those who do not like crowded places.

Restaurant from outside.

Restaurant from inside.

You will be served with a vegetable soup for free when you arrive there plus a bowl of green vegetables and Iranian bread.
We ordered a Shirazi salad plate to start with and a bowl of Mast Moseer which is made from yogurt mixed with mountain garlic. The salad and the soup were fine but the Mast Moseer was not tasty, I guess the portion of garlic they used was tiny. For the main dish I ordered Khashkash Kebab, that is kebab with tomato sauce and my friend ordered a Chelo Kebab (rice with kebab) plate. My plate and his tasted yummy but the problem was that the bread was not hot and fresh and so if you'll visit this restaurant make sure you insist that you get hot bread.

When you are done, you are complimented with Chay Estikana, that is a tiny cup of tea.

The complimentary tea.

The prices were reasonable and fine, so is the location and we did not have any problem with finding a spot for parking.
Overall I can say we had a fine experience and that the restaurant deserves a rate of 7/10.

A Special Recipe for a Machboos Dish!

The weather was lovely in Mitlaa' area where we were camping last week me and my friends and fortunately I had the chance to be away from the crowded streets of Salmya and Kuwait City. There we made sure to give ourselves a break from restaurants and fast food and we decided to cook our own food. Dealing with breakfast was easy, we had a combination of cheeses, olives, fruit jam, honey, bread and best of all is an omelet dish that I made by myself.

It was nearly 2pm and the guys were hungry and we were discussing what we shall eat for lunch. We searched the web for some recipes and the majority voted for a "chicken machboos". There was the recipe that we will follow, it was simple and straight forward. Unfortunately, not all ingredients were available with us and so one of us was sent to bring the stuff from a nearby grocery shop. After having all ingredients now, we started the process of cooking the machboos. By 3:45pm the machboos was ready to eat. It tasted good and everyone was pleased, it was finger-licking delicious!

I thought it would be nice to share with you the recipe to experience the good taste yourself. Here you go:

Ingredients:

  • 1 chicken
  • salt
  • cinnamon stick
  • cardamom
  • black pepper
  • 3 cups of basmati rice
  • flour
For the tomato sauce:

  • 2 large tomatoes finely chopped
  • 2 table spoon water
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 table spoon tomato sauce
Steps:
1 - wash the chicken well and then put it in a pot and add water to soak.
2 - add the cinnamon stick and cardamom, cloves and black pepper kernels and cook until the water boils over moderate heat for 40 minutes.
3 - remove the chicken and keep aside.
4 -  cook the rice in the chicken broth.
5 - pour some flour on the chicken then cook in a skillet over medium heat.
6 - to prepare the tomato sauce add water, tomatoes and garlic tomato sauce in a pot and cook until tomato is cooked.
7 - when the rice is cooked put in a dish with the chicken.

8 - Place the tomato sauce in a separate bowl.
9 - You can add some roasted nuts and onions on the rice to give a better look.

Bon Appetite!

Note: This recipe was taken from rjeem.com, but unfortunately it was in Arabic and I had to translate it to English in order to share it with you.
